Puerto Princesa which is the coastal city of Palawan Island is in the western part of the Philippines. “Ciudad de Puerto Princesa” or now named Puerto Princesa location is very close to its neighbourhood “Vietnam”. According to its citizen, during Vietnam’s War, many Vietnamese escaped to Puerto Princesa for them and their families’ safety as it is few hours boat travel from their country only. Few Vietnamese stayed to the said place and most of them returned to their country after the war ended in 1970s. Few remained Vietnamese got married to some Filipinos and raised their families. The government keeps “Viet Village” ( where Old Vietnamese stayed for years) preserved as it was.
“Chao long” which means “lugaw” or porridge is now a well-known soup in Puerto Princesa since Vietnamese shared their “affordable” dish in the city market. Filipinos and Vietnamese had their strong friendship since Filipinos gave them a “home like” place to live during their country’s war.
“Chao” which means “Hello” in Chinese and “Long” which means “Cage” is now a trademark taste in the said city and everyone who’s visiting Puerto Princesa must try “Chaolong” since it has different taste from another Filipino noodle soup.
Chao Long contains 412 calories and only 14g fats every bowl. There’s no even cholesterol, sodium, potassium, carbs and fiber on a bowl of the said soup. It has 42 g of sugar and only 31g of Protein and doesn’t contain any vitamins, calcium and iron. So it is fine if you’ll try this noodle soup for some time when you visited the place.
